TraditionalFrequently Asked Questions: Section 80CCD(2) Corporate NPS
Clear answers to common questions on CTC structure, take-home calculations, Budget 2024 tax slabs, and Section 87A rebate rules.
What is Corporate NPS (Section 80CCD(2)) and how does it differ from regular NPS?
Corporate NPS is an employer-sponsored retirement scheme where your company directly contributes up to 14% of your Basic Salary + DA into your Tier-1 National Pension System account as part of your CTC restructuring. Unlike voluntary employee NPS (Section 80CCD(1B) capped at ₹50,000, which is disallowed in the New Regime), Corporate NPS is fully permitted under the New Tax Regime (Section 115BAC) with no ₹50,000 upper dollar ceiling.
What was the Budget 2024 change for Corporate NPS in the private sector?
In Budget 2024, the Indian Finance Ministry increased the deduction limit for employer contributions under Section 80CCD(2) for private sector employees from 10% to 14% of Basic Salary + DA exclusively under the New Tax Regime. This equalized private sector corporate employees with central and state government employees.
Is there an aggregate cap on employer contributions to PF, NPS, and Superannuation?
Yes. Under Section 17(2)(vii), the combined annual employer contribution to Employee Provident Fund (EPF), National Pension System (NPS), and approved Superannuation Fund is tax-exempt up to an aggregate ceiling of ₹7,50,000 per financial year. Any combined employer contribution exceeding ₹7.5 Lakhs is treated as perquisite salary income and taxed at your marginal slab rate.
